WORK EXPERIENCE

Driven by a commitment to reducing diabetes-related amputations in high-risk populations, Dr. Releford established the Diabetic Foot Institute and later formalized his limb salvage success and philosophy at the Daniel Freeman Wound Care Center. This center adopted a multi-disciplinary approach, bringing together experts in vascular surgery, infectious diseases, plastic surgery, endocrinology, and podiatry to collaboratively work towards preserving limbs at risk of amputation.

As the Founder and CEO of The Releford Institute for Limb Salvage and Wound Care at Miracle Mile Medical Center in Los Angeles, Dr. Releford leads a team dedicated to decreasing diabetes-related amputation rates. The institute provides comprehensive wound care and individualized treatment plans to heal wounds and prevent amputations, addressing the specialized needs of each patient.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Releford's commitment to community health and education is exemplified through the Diabetic Amputation Prevention Foundation (DAP), a non-profit organization he founded in 2001. DAP focuses on increasing public diabetes awareness through culturally specific education and community-based programs. Notably, the foundation has successfully implemented innovative outreach initiatives such as the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program, screening thousands for diabetes and hypertension.

Internationally, the DAP Foundation extends its reach to countries like Fiji, Costa Rica, Brazil, Ghana, Uganda, Gabon, Benin, and Cuba, aiming to address healthcare disparities from a cardiovascular disease perspective. Dr. Releford, also an assistant professor at Charles R. Drew University, shares his expertise through lectures both domestically and internationally on the latest limb salvage techniques and community-based outreach strategies.

Dr. Releford's groundbreaking work has garnered recognition from esteemed media outlets, including NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, ABC’s THE VIEW, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and the Los Angeles Times. In addition to his impactful contributions, Dr. Releford has authored the much-anticipated book, "Five Colors to Better Health," further establishing him as a leader in the field.
